Switzerland 3-0: Victory led by Anthoulis for the National Team
The women’s national volleyball team entered the European Championship qualifiers on the right foot after winning 3-0 sets against Switzerland.
An ideal start for the Women’s National Team in the qualifiers of the Women’s Championship, as they prevailed with a 3-0 set against Switzerland for the 1st matchday of the 6th group.
With top scorer Martha Anthoulis with 20 points and great work from all the athletes used by the Italian federation Marcello Abbondanza, the “blue and white” presence of a lot of people at the Mikras closed took the first step to securing a ticket for Eurovole0.
Key to the big win over the Swiss was the turnaround from 7-13 down in the second set, which led to a 2-0 set instead of a tie.
The match started in the best possible way, with our national team being excellent in block-defense, in serving and with Martha Anthoulis being unstoppable in the attack, they took a 7-1 lead. Switzerland tried to cut back, however the Greek block was well set up to easily make it a 1-0 set at 25-17 with an attack by Olga Strantzalis.
Our national team was behind the score early in the second set, with Switzerland reacting after the bad first set. With the score at 7-13, Marcelo Abondanza had used up his two timeouts, while making changes at the ends, with Stamatia Kyparissi and Eva Hadava entering the court. Gradually, the Hellenic Women Internationals improved their performance, improved their reception and defense, and with two consecutive attacks by Eva Hadava, Greece went ahead with a score of 22-21. With an ace from Andromachis Tsioga, the National team had two match points for the 2-0 set (24-22), but the Swiss tied at 24-24. Martha Anthoulis put Greece in front again (25-24) to follow Switzerland’s attack for 26-24 and 2-0 set.
He found himself chasing the score in the third set of the National Team, as with consecutive good serves from Switzerland, it became 3-7. Marcelo Abondanza called a time-out and then came the improvement of the Hellenic internationals and with two consecutive attacks by Olga Strandzalis and immediately after with a block by Andromachis Tsioga they went ahead with 12-11. The difference gradually increased and with Martha Anthoulis we went ahead with 19-15. However, Switzerland did not say its last word and with its star diagonal, it tied Stork at 21-21 and then 22-22. The final was thrilling, with Martha Anthoulis with one attack and one block making it 25-23 and the final 3-0 set.
